For Mary Irving, a 25-year-old Rensselaer native, life as an assistant athletic trainer at the Rochester Institute of Technology couldn't be finer.
Although the position is part time, Irving spends about 40 hours a week taping, diagnosing and comforting injured athletes. But it seems she can never get enough of it.
"The satisfaction that I get from helping other people is well worth it," Irving said. "I like to know I'm helping a lot of athletes on all levels, both physically and mentally. They come to me with personal problems, school problems. You're involved in every aspect."
