According to the abstract posted by the World Intellectual Property Organization: "A method, device thereof and system thereof for automatically configuring Internet Protocol (IP) addresses are disclosed by the present invention. The method includes: receiving a network segment probe packet transmitted by an address allocation server, the network segment probe packet including configuration information which includes identifiers of clients in the network segment and the IP addresses corresponding to the identifiers; determining whether there is the probe message corresponding to the network segment, if no, generating, according to the network segment probe packet, the probe message including configuration data which include the identifiers of the clients in the network segment and the IP addresses corresponding to the identifiers; transmitting the probe message to the network segment so as to enable the clients in the network segment to implement data configuration according to the configuration data in the probe message. The difficulty and costs of IP address allocation can be reduced by the invention."
